Replacement dwelling on Guernsey’s West Coast

Main contractor: CA Duquemin

Structural & civil engineering: CBL Consulting

M&E consultants: Henderson Green

Following several refused planning applications, the A7 Design practice were delighted to secure Planning Permission for a replacement dwelling on Guernsey's west coast. As the existing dwelling was deemed to be of little architectural merit and its poor orientation did little to capitalise on the panoramic views of Guernsey's coastline, it was decided the existing dwelling was to be demolished and and replaced with bespoke energy efficient dwelling.

Prior to developing the concept and a formal planning application being made, a detailed topographical survey and site investigation was undertaken to ascertain the geology of the site.

Development

The design conforms to a number of strict planning constraints being located in an area of high landscape value with sensitive historic surroundings. The form was evolved from the contours of surrounding landscape and significantly improves the existing sight lines from the neighbouring protected Burton Battery monument.
