On Site - Approved new build replacement dwelling on Guernsey's stunning west coast
Following several refused planning applications over a number of years the A7 Design practice are delighted to have secured Planning Permission for a replacement dwelling on Guernsey's west coast. Due to the lack of architectural merit and the poor orientation of the existing dwelling, which does little to capitalise on the panoramic views of Guernsey's coastline it was decided the existing dwelling was to be demolished and recycled where possible and replaced with bespoke new dwelling.
The design had to conform to a number of strict planning constraints due to the site being located in an area of high landscape value and its sensitive surroundings. The form was evolved from the contours of surrounding landscape and significantly improves the existing site lines from the neighbouring protected Napoleonic emplacement.
Internally the dwelling features broken and open plan living, double height spaces and a modern take on the traditional tourelle staircase with a extraordinary spiral stair incorporating a circular glass lift serving all three floors.
Prior to the formal planning application being made, a detailed topographical survey, and site investigation was undertaken to ascertain the geology of the site.
